Villamartin is the name of urbanization and a golf course in the area of the Costa Blanca of Spain. It is located in the municipality of Orihuela, in the province of Alicante in Valencia.
Villamartin is one of many developments over the last decade in this region of the Costa Blanca. The area is very popular with tourists and most of the population consists of expatriate communities in Western Europe, who settled there in the last 10 years, virtually transforming the city. There are also other golf courses and beaches nearby. The beach is La Zenia beach.
The region is home to The Limonar International School, Villamartin, an international school that teaches Spanish and English.
Villamartin is situated on the Costa Blanca in the municipality of Orihuela and Alicante. This is an hour’s drive south of Alicante and twenty minutes’ drive north of Murcia.
Villamartin construction began in 1972, and the area is now transformed into a cosmopolitan urban development, which includes about 1,500 apartments, villas and town houses. The main inhabitants are from Western Europe and especially the English language. Villamartin area is part of a lot of tourism; the emergence of numerous families and attractions, from golf to water sports-cart tracks. A major attraction for both domestic and non domestic tourism is the climate. As such, Villamartin has about 300 days of sunshine and 20 degrees centigrade average annual temperature as well as the many great beaches that are in the area, which has been awarded the Blue Flag.
Villamartin has two golf courses, but there are also many other courses close to the surrounding area.
The urbanization of Villamartin is known for its Central Plaza, which is located near the Villamartin golf course. It consists of a grocery store, doctor’s office, a selection of bars, discos, cafes and restaurants, and a number of occasions. The Plaza is built around a square that has a number of palm trees, home to many African parrots collar. These parrots have achieved celebrity status with the local tourists who are not accustomed to the sight, and are considered a nice complement to the region.
